Good day ladies and gentlemen, we have a new request for adminship!

As always, it is up to you to decide the outcome of the application, but before that, let me introduce our candidate.

This time, our applicant is SophOG! You might have already seen her on the Mineplex forums and on the MP Discord, or perhaps you know her from the Game Insights team. As a former Moderator, she has an extensive knowledge of Mineplex, and continues to actively help the server as community member to this date.

Joining the Wiki back in April, she has been editing a great variety of articles, and she is often seen participating in discussions on our Discord server. With such outstanding activity, she was interested in joining the staff team as a Chat Moderator about a month ago. And now, Sophie is hoping to continue her staff journey at the Mineplex Wiki by becoming an Administrator.

Heya! Long time no talk (at least in this section) – how’s it going everyone?

Most of the recent changes are covered in our newsletters, but today we have two quite important topics to discuss, which deserve their own thread, as well as polls. 

Staff pages

The recently introduced Staff pages (example) caused a lot of controversy. We’ve received quite a few valid complaints, questioning their adequacy and their value of contribution to the Wiki, up to the point where we are considering to delete all staff pages (below Admin). 

Right now, we have an exclusive page for every single (current) staff member, from Trainee to Owner, as well as several articles about retired staff members. 

Here’s a short summary about the problems the staff pages are causing:

• The topic of the pages – staff members – does not contribute to the Mineplex Wiki as an encyclopedia. This site was originally meant for minigames and other in-game features, and not players with a shiny tag.

• Having a page for each staff member is not only impractical, but also inconvenient to monitor and difficult to keep up to date. We can’t assure the quality of over 270 pages that cover constantly changing topics (staff members resigning, joining new sub-teams etc.).

• Some of the pages’ content may appear as subjective, or simply not notable or useful.

The poll below includes all the options which are currently available for us. We’d love to hear your feedback on the matter so we can make sure our final decision is the best choice for everyone.

Request for bureaucratship

That’s right! Nicodami is ready to take on the duties of a bureaucrat. He joined the staff team some months ago, and has since been very dedicated to making the Wiki as great as possible! Behind the scenes, he is actively working together with others to coordinate new projects, such as the Wiki forums guide, the Translations project, and more! His entire application can be seen here.

Hey again!

Setting no goals to reach this year in the previous post was definitely a mistake, so we've decided to add an Article of the Week promoted on the front page. This should provide everyone a page to focus on, which we aim to complete to ensure more updated/relevant content.

This week, we're starting off with Super Smash Mobs, and that isn't going to be an easy task. We're talking about over 20 kits, with each having multiple abilities, and a bunch of maps, too. This brings me to my first question:

Let's see if we can complete it!

I've also updated the rest of the homepage, which partially contained "news" from the last year, should you ever notice something being plain wrong, go ahead and start editing! :)

In the last months, I've spoken to various members of the Mineplex community how they felt about this page, and the majority of the responses included "I want to start editing, but I don't know how!". We don't want this place to be deterrent to potential new editors, so feel free to ask us if you need assistance with anything on here.

As we are trying to engage a bigger part of the Mineplex players, I've also considered restarting the weekly (or bi-weekly) Wiki recaps to appreciate the work of you guys, and looking back on what we worked on. If you are interested, let me know through the poll below.

Well hello there 2018... 15 days in and there hasn't been an official announcement yet, clearly the activity of Wiki staff continued to decrease. Let's start off with something different though: I hope you can achieve all of your resolutions and goals you have for this year! Let's make this year a good one, as Amazo would say. :)

With the Mineplex community declining, we have also less active contributors who still work on the pages. Speaking for the whole management team, we are very happy to still have some users improving this page regardless if their work is always appreciated or not, kudos to you guys!

We still have a lot of areas to work on, be it updating the game pages to our newest standards, adding all abilities or finally moving on to the mobile compatibility. There's much to do as you can see, so feel free to add content if you've got the time.

Speaking of which, with school requiring more and more work (at least for my part), you might have noticed already I am not editing very often anymore, however, I'm still here almost every day to make sure everything is running fine behind the scenes.

I don't really know if I should set any goals for the Wiki to be achieved this year, but if you've got anything in mind we should focus on, let me (and the others) know.

Hello everyone, I would like to discuss the possibly upcoming host change from Fandom (Wikia) to a community-based site which is managed by Eliqs/T0242.

Clearly, the page is far from being finished, but it could definitely be a step in the right direction to get more attention and contributors to the Wiki.

Advantages of moving the page include:

• More Mineplex focused (no Wikia banner, no other Wikis embedded)
• Cleaner advertisements
• Easier web design management (can be modified in any way)
• Custom signature generator for the forums which could show edits, statistics etc. [UPCOMING]
• Edit suggestions (these will need to be reviewed by moderators before showing up) [UPCOMING]

Keep in mind that development is not finished yet. We are searching for feedback and feature ideas, so feel free to join the new page if you are interested.

Hey everyone!

Welcome to the magical land of 2017! Let's make this year a good one.

I know that some of you have lists of tasks to accomplish on the wiki somewhere, such as your user pages. There's a nifty feature/page that Fandom has introduced, known as Special:Community. It's a place for the wiki community to hang out, set priorities, and get their footing on what needs to happen.

I encourage everyone to add their tasks to the page, as well as anything that you feel is important. Heck, we even have a few things we need to do to the page itself, which I'll set up shortly.

A quick word: I realize that we didn't really hit any of the goals set last year. This year will (hopefully) be different.

Months of procrastination later, the main page has been updated to include all of the recent news and events! Except the polls, that is.

Also, page views have been dropping lately, probably due to the outdated nature of the wiki. Time to kick it up a notch... before I go AWOL for a few months again. Let's see what happens.

So a few months after I promised I would update the theme in some obscure post, I've finally done it. I'm not satisfied with the theme, but I figured I had to get something out. As always, leave some feedback below; do you think the theme's a bit dark?

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

I hope all of you are enjoying your holidays, and maybe a Winter Break as well. If you look around you, the wiki's been spruced up with the colors of the holidays. Geez, that took a while; I was afraid that we would still have that Halloween theme all the way up to the 25th. Time for a sigh of relief.

Well, no, actually. I just realized that it's already the 25th in some parts of the world. Welp.

Anywho, a year's gone by, and a new one optimistically looms ahead. And, like we all have New Year's resolutions of our own, we should also come up with some for the wiki. A few ideas, in no particular order:

• Mobile compatibility: It's no secret that our mobile user experience is difficult at the very best and horrendous at the very worst. This is why I want to go into 2016 with an emphasis on mobile infrastructure, including revitalizing the main page, converting existing templates into mobile templates, and decreasing our reliance on and shortening tables.
• Consistent updates to the wiki community: Recently, I've noticed that weeks could go by without a reliable source of news and updates regarding wiki development. This is why I plan to start some sort of monthly, if not weekly, notification system so that you guys can stay informed on what we're doing. This will also make it easier to coordinate our efforts on a particular task. I might eventually hand this weekly/monthly responsibility down to other users in the form of a new staff position.
• Input from the wiki community: Enough talk about pushing content to you guys; let's discuss how you can make an impact past just editing pages. All the major decisions as of late have been made by wiki staff members, and I want to extend that voice to the onlookers. Starting 2016, we'll begin to lend an open ear to the concerns of the community and areas we should focus on. Should we work towards consistent page content? Is it better that we divert our attention to sorting categories? Now, you will be able to decide! Also look out for some sort feedback survey that'll be coming your way.

Heyo!

Minigames. Perhaps the biggest and most well-known staple to Mineplex. Without them, Mineplex wouldn't be Mineplex, and it probably wouldn't even be a server; heck, minigames are probably what got us here in the first place, right?

If you breeze through a random set of pages pertaining to minigames, though, you'll notice some distinct differences between one and another, namely the way they're written. Some are organized differently, some are dependent on bulletpoints, some have a surplus of tables, and so on. While this may seem fine, it can be a bit tedious for editors to constantly have to restyle each page according to how they write it. Adding to their trouble is the fact that no one else is going to do it the same way they did, leading to confusing situations in which a few editors work in opposite directions. It can get pretty messy.

This is why I am officially^{[Note 1]} announcing that we are in the planning stages of creating a minigame style guide that all editors can refer to as an official resource when creating and maintaining such articles. This way, all editors will be working together in sync to create a comprehensive collection of pages with the guide backing them up at every step of the way. But we need your help.

The thing is, editors in the past (including me) have edited pages according to how they see fit. It rarely goes beyond a single person's thought process, so little to no people have actually had a say in how something should be written. The idea of letting you guys know about our in-progress guide is so that you can passionately express your thoughts and ideas as to what should be in such a guide, so that we can create the best one possible by incorporating (and occasionally trimming) our collective intuitions into a product of the community.

Shortly after the style guide is enacted into the wiki, I will look into the possibility of creating our first wikiproject, which will be concerned with updating all minigame pages according to the new guide. Following this, we'll probably commence with the creation of style guides for other types of pages as well, and put into effect more wikiprojects.

I know, adhering to a set of rules for writing a body of text isn't very fun for some of you. So that's why I'm telling you now that when the style guide is finalized, you don't have to follow it if you don't feel inclined to. Simply add in all information you think would be useful in the article, and we members of the community will sort it out for you according to the guide.
