Death Run is an Intermediate minigame on Mineplex Java released on August 12, 2022. In Death Run, you must evade the traps set off by trappers as a runner in order to progress through the map.

Gameplay[]

Death Run is made up of two teams: the Runners and the Trappers. Runners must make their way through the map's course, while trappers can control the obstacles along the track from the sideline. 25% of players are selected as trappers at the start of the game.

Map[]

Each map has a varying amount of traps (usually between 20-30). Traps refer to the location of an obstacle, e.g. a long hallway or a corner in the course. Each trap is filled by a template. Templates describe the actual obstacles, and are randomly selected out of all templates available for each trap (usually between 2-3). For example, a corner piece could contain a simple parkour, a platform with disappearing blocks or other interactive elements called mechanics.

To create a template, map authors can choose from over 20 different mechanics, allowing for a wild variety of tricks to surprise and eliminate runners. Any number of templates may be provided for each trap (as determined by the map authors). With this, the runner's course is heavily randomized and will change with each game.

Additionally, each map features a number of checkpoints which act as respawn points for the Runners. These are usually placed between sections of 3-4 traps.

Runners[]

Runners must complete the course ahead of them while avoiding traps along the way. With two movement abilities available to runners, a leap and a speed effect, they may be able to use shortcuts to their advantage or skip over obstacles entirely.

Runners start with x lives and gain a new life each time a checkpoint is reached.

In order to win as a runner, you must make it to the portal at the end of the map within 8 minutes. This timer is shortened to 150 seconds (2.5 minutes) once the first runner has made it to the goal. Beware however, as you only have a limited number of lives – and you lose a life when hit by a trap.

Trappers[]

Trappers are given items to navigate between the traps and activate them. In order to win as a trapper, at least 50% of runners must be prevented from reaching the goal. Additionally, if the game timer runs out before anyone has completed the course, trappers will also win the game.

Runners that completed the map may win with the trappers as well.

Team filling[]

Similar to Block Hunt, if a trapper leaves before the game has ended, a new trapper is picked amongst the runners. Players can volunteer for this position by clicking on the message that appears in the chat, otherwise, a random runner is selected.
