A Gem.
Gems are the main form of currency used on Mineplex. They were announced on July 2nd, 2013, and released on July 6th, 2013. Gems can be acquired in a variety of ways, mainly by playing minigames. Currently, Gems are only used for buying kits; in turn, they are the only currency to have any gameplay impact. They were also formerly used to charge the Gem Fountain.
Earning Gems[]
Players can earn Gems by:
- Playing games.
- Collecting the daily reward at Carl the Creeper.
- Registering on Mineplex (5000 Gems).
Former features[]
Feature | Elaboration | Reason for removal |
---|---|---|
Gem multiplier | Before the EULA Update, Ultras had the ability to have their total Gem count for a minigame doubled; for Heroes, it was tripled. | The new EULA prevents server-purchasable items from exhibiting gameplay advantages. Since Gems can be used to buy kits, additional earnings would allow ranked players to acquire more kits in a shorter period of time. |
Gem Boosters | Before the EULA Update, players could activate Gem Boosters in a Game Wait Room to increase the amount of Gems earned by all players present. | Similar to Gem multipliers, the mechanic presented an unfair advantage to paying player by allowing them to earn more Gems than normally possible. |
Cosmetics | Gems were once used to buy Cosmetics as well as kits. | Replaced by Coins to differentiate between the two item types. |
Blue Gems | Blue Gems were planned, but never released. As such, not much is known; they had the ability to be bought. | Exact reason unknown; removed in a system "restructure."[1] However many people consider this idea was adapted to treasure shards. |
